Welcome to the latest edition of the San Diego Participant Observer Newsletter!
This month, we are excited to implement a revised format for the newsletter, one that will be easier to navigate and more compact. In the newly revised table (which also has a new look) of upcoming events, each event is followed by more information about its location, type of event, or other useful information. This should allow you to find the events you are most interested in more expeditiously. With this change, the beginning narrative section (this part) will be much shorter as it will now be employed solely for general information, recommendations, and announcements.
An important note: In the table of events, if an event occurs 3 or more times, it is marked with a asterick (*). In order to keep the list of events more compact, events marked with an asterick will not be shown again for the week.
We are also happy to say that after clicking on an event listing, you can now download information (name, dates, times, etc.) to your personal calendar. This feature downloads a standard "ICS" file which you can then click on to populate your calendar and set reminders so that you won't miss any events you are looking forward to attending. Even though the ICS system is widely used, has been around for many years, and is compatible with most calendars (Outlook, Google, Apple, Android, etc.), it is still not foolproof (but any errors are easy to fix on the fly when you save to your calendar). So use this feature with a modicum of care, and enjoy being able to easily save events get reminders (if you wish to). For more on ICS and what it does, check out: https://fileinfo.com/extension/ics
Please let us know what you think or feel about these changes.
This is also a new monthly issue. Therefore, we have a brand new Recipe of the Month. This month's offering is Irish Curry Chips, a savory-sweet upgrade to the humble french fry that tastes exquisite. Our International Music of the Month Selection is for the CD Al-Maraya by the Al Andaluz Project featuring the talents of 3 masterful women vocalists who cross borders and genres. And, our Book of the Month suggestion is for the multi-award-winning novel, When We Were Birds by Ayanna Lloyd Banwo, who hails from Trinidad and Tobago.
Everyone here at the San Diego Participant Observer and the Worldview Project wish you a fulfilling, illuminating, and culturally rich week!
